The Sinisterhood, a quasi religious order who offer free advice and help. Rumored to be attempting to secretly control the Imperium from behind the scenes as counselors to those in power. Sinisters are called that because they always stand at the left hand of those they advise, as were the Nicomedian stand to the right.

The Anothethans. A secret society of government and corporate functionaries. The Anothetans are said to have an elaborate religion based on reincarnation, dress in elaborate robes and curious hats They title themselves "Heralds of the Founder" The Anothetans are rumored to be attempting to control the Imperium by controlling the functions of power.

Sinister is the Voice, Nicomedian is the Word, Anothetan is the Rule, thus is the Imperium run

The Assassins War

Since the foundation of the Imperium, Sinister and Anothetan have fought for control of the Imperium in a war that is out of sight, and out of mind to the rest of the population. Bodies turn up murdered in curious and exotic ways. People, ships  and even occasional whole planets disappear. It is said the Anothetans have the numbers. For they are concerned about the letter of the law with the Proper Forms, so they have the easier way. But the Sinisters are more effective, because the Sinister is concerned about the Forms being done the right way so she learns all the details.

The Distillation Wars of the Early Imperium are said to be caused by an escalation in the Assassins War. The result of which is the Shadow Protocols which limit conflict and designate proper Forms of parley.

Araxes is colder than most people expect.

  The thought that first comes to people’s minds when they imagine a desert planet is hot. Most of Araxes is actually quite chilly. More so because of the thinner atmosphere in general and the altitude especially in the south.   Solar Radiation levels on Araxes is about 10 times terrestrial standard, about 3% of the amount in interplanetary space. This can be shielded against with some reasonable precautions. Most Araxes out of door gathering are at dusk and dawn for precisely this reason. Araxes however is susceptible to solar storms and solar flares dramatically increasing the already very high solar radiation levels.
