My Dune Review by Aodhfionn Tysysacha   ENVY ME! I got to watch the new Dune movie. Sandworms dominate the sands of Araxes and the minds of people the way Sharks and Whales dominate the sea and the minds of people when they think of the ocean. Fear and awe. They're huge, too big for the mind to comprehend. In that way, Dune is maybe too big. Dune was always filled with innumerable things too big for the mind to grasp.  An impossibly complex plot by their enemies, surrounded and beset by people with their own impossibly complex agenda’s and plots. In the novel, The Emperor remarks that Duke Atreides own military forces are nearly as effective as his feared Sardukar forces, and his honourable ways are making him popular among the other nobility of the Landsraad. He and the devious Baron Harkonnen hatch a plan to put the potential upstart in his place. Antimatter Catalyzed Microfusion Engine (The ACME) The name is something of a misnomer, because the antimatter is not actually a true catalyst, it is consumed. Antimatter Triggered Fission Implosion MicroFusion Pulse Engine (ATFIMPE) makes for a very uninteresting and unwieldy acronym. Soooo, ACME it is. Antimatter is a pain in the neck to manufacture, with highly problematic storage issues. While antimatter produces over 1000 times more total energy per unit mass than traditional Deuterium/Tritium Fusion, it is also minimum ten times more expensive per unit energy output than modern efficient fusion Most people do not consider it, but antimatter induces a more efficient fission reaction than normal fission methods. Araxes is colder than most people expect.

  The thought that first comes to people’s minds when they imagine a desert planet is hot. Most of Araxes is actually quite chilly. More so because of the thinner atmosphere in general and the altitude especially in the south.   Solar Radiation levels on Araxes is about 10 times terrestrial standard, about 3% of the amount in interplanetary space. This can be shielded against with some reasonable precautions. Most Araxes out of door gathering are at dusk and dawn for precisely this reason. Araxes however is susceptible to solar storms and solar flares dramatically increasing the already very high solar radiation levels.
